19.1.1 Influence of age on NER activity

DNA repair synthesis induced by exposure to UV-light has been determined in normal human fibroblasts at early and late passage during their life in culture. No difference in the level of repair synthesis was observed between early and late passage cells [5]. Although it has been often assumed that DNA repair might be less efficient at older age, there is no direct evidence that NER is less active in cells from individuals at older age.
